General Assembly of the United Nations

ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS FOR FOOD AND AGRICULTURE

FAO

The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, the only one in which all Member States have equal representation: one nation, one vote. All 193 Member States of the United Nations are represented in this unique forum to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the UN Charter, such as development, peace and security, international law, etc. In September, all the Members meet in the General Assembly Hall in New York for the annual General Assembly session. The FAO develops methods and standards for food and agriculture statistics, provides technical assistance services and disseminates data for global monitoring. Statistical activities at FAO include the development and implementation of methodologies and standards for data collection, validation, processing and analysis. FAO also plays a vital part in the global compilation, processing and dissemination of food and agriculture statistics, and provides essential statistical capacity development to member countries. XV MUN Lancaster students will attend to issues of utmost importance for FAO as nutrition and sustainable agriculture. Issues relevant to politics, the economy, but above all for the world's population.
